SLSU ranks 975th in UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2024

Out of 1,477 institutions across 95 countries, Southern Luzon State University ranked 975th in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2024, a ranking system that assesses an institution's sustainability performance.

The UI GreenMetric recognized the university’s efforts in policy implementation on sustainable practices, earning the 41st rank over 63 universities and colleges in the country, 536th place out of 866 entries in Asia, and 975th in the world ranking.

The ranking shows that the university is committed to combating climate change by promoting and creating a greener university.

In the pipeline for approval of the BOR are SLSU’s R&D Center for Agri-Aqua Resources, Center for Social Innovation and Public Policy, Center for Mt. Banahaw Studies, and Design and Innovation Center.

SLSU joins 8th Techno Gabay Program Summit and Coconut Expo opening

Southern Luzon State University, together with the Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) CALABARZON, Provincial Government Unit of Quezon, Philippine Coconut Authority Region IV-A, and the Department of Trade and Industry Quezon, successfully participated in the opening ceremony for the 8th Techno Gabay Program (TGP) Summit and Coconut Expo on November 18 at Pacific Mall, Lucena.

The event commenced with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the 2024 Coconut Exhibits, featuring an array of coconut products from CALABARZON such as coconut wine (lambanog), coconut oil, coconut vinegar, coconut sugar, buko pie, coco coir products, and handicrafts

Dr. Rolando Maningas, Center Director of DA ATI CALABARZON, manifested, “Ito ang ating pagkakaisa, sama-samang pagtutulungan upang tiyakin na ang ating mga magsasaka ay may access sa makabagong teknolohiya, marketing, at komersyalisasyon.” (“This reflects our unity and collective effort to ensure that our farmers have access to modern technology, marketing, and commercialization.”)

Dr. Maningas further highlighted the collaborative efforts of the four pillars of extensions: the National Government Agencies (NGAs), Private Sectors, State University and Colleges (SUCs), and the Provincial and Local Government Units (PGUs and LGUs).

SLSU President Dr. Frederick T. Villa reaffirmed the university’s dedication to the coconut sector stating, “We at Southern Luzon State University are committing ourselves to be the center of coconut research and development in the province.” He also emphasized plans for future research and development initiatives focusing on coconut-based products.

Other messages of support were delivered by Quezon’s Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Mr. Alexander Garcia, PCA IV-A Regional Director Bibiano C. Concibido, Jr., and DTI Quezon Provincial Director Julieta Tadiosa.

Adding a cultural touch, the SLSU Sinag Banahaw Cultural Dance Troupe performed Maglalatik, paying homage to the cultural and economic significance of coconut farming in the Philippines.

The event also featured a Techno Forum with notable speakers sharing expertise on critical topics such as:

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for Coconut and Its Importance to Agribusiness by Ms. Pamela C. Perez, Agriculturist, DA-CALABARZON
Potential and Innovative Agricultural Products from Coconut by Mr. Rodel Sinapilo, owner of Coco Deli and a farmer-scientist
AgriJuana in Coconut Agribusiness by Ms. Astralet A. Maribella, owner of Mikastra Integrated Farm

The five-day event will continue with various Techno Forum discussions and the 8^th TGP Summit, which will highlight the accomplishments of CALABARZON’s Farmer’s Information Technology Services (FITS) Centers.

Nagtungo ang DA-ATI CALABARZON kasama ang Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) at Tanggapan ng Panlalawigang Agrikultor upang tugunan ang aplikasyon ng lokal na pamahalan ng Mulanay, Quezon ng pagtatayo ng Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center sa Tanggapan ng Pambayang Agrikultor nito.
Sa inisyatibong ito, nilalayon ng bayan ng Mulanay na mapalakas ang kanilang pagbabahagi ng impormasyon sa pagsasaka at pangisdaan.

The Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), with the Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Training Institute (DA ATI) IV-A and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) Quezon, conducted a Field and Desk evaluation for the Municipal Agriculture Office (OMA) of Infanta, Quezon as a potential Farmer’s Information Technology Services (FITS) Center.
Dr. Leomar C. Miano, TGP Quezon Team Leader, Dr. Lloyd Balinado, Deputy Consortium Director of STAARRDEC, Ms. Hanna Phoebe Romero, FITS Manager of Quezon Province, and Mr. Hans Christopher Flores of DA ATI CALABARZON, led the field and desk evaluation. They assessed the officers and staff of OMA Infanta to determine their readiness and capability to become a FITS Center.
In addition, the Office of Extension Services (OES) conducted monitoring of the existing FITS Center and KIOSK at the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of General Nakar, Quezon, located in Barangays Anolin and Pamplona. Engr. Jethro Auditor, Agricultural Technologist of OMA General Nakar and also the Information Service Specialist (ISS), participated in the monitoring activities ensuring the effective operation of their FITS centers and KIOSKs.
FITS centers are under the Techno Gabay Program (TGP) of the DA ATI, which aims to enhance the agricultural services and support provided to farmers, by improving their access to agricultural information, resources, and technology.

Kaalinsabay ng ‘Farmworker Appreciation Day,’ pormal na binuksan ng Tanggapan ng Pambayang Agrikultor ng Atimonan, Quezon ang Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center sa kanilang bayan.
Lubos ang galak ng mga magsasaka at mangingisda na nakasaksi sa nasabing gawain.
Ang FITS Center ay magsisilbing pasilidad na layong ilapit ang kaalaman ukol sa angkop at makabagong teknolohiya sa agrikultura para sa mga magsasaka, mangingisda, kabataan, at iba pang kliyente.
Nagpaabot naman ng pagsuporta si DA-ATI CALABARZON Center Director Dr. Rolando V. Maningas sa paglulunsad ng ika-18 FITS Center sa lalawigan ng Quezon, gayundin ang mga katuwang mula sa Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) at Tanggapan ng Panlalawigang Agrikultor.
