National Women’s Month : OIAA’s Recognition of International Partners

In the month-long National Women’s Month celebration, the Office of International and Alumni Affairs took part in the opening event held on March 17, 2023 at Southern Luzon State University Gymnasium, Lucban, Quezon, Philippines, awarding the international partner institutions and organizations a Certificate of Recognition for their valuable contribution, assistance, and commendable support to the university in providing worthwhile programs and projects to uplift quality of education. OIAA coordinated with the office of MIS for the hybrid set-up of the recognition event, as most of the international partners were not physically available to receive the award.

               

Dr. Joanna Paula E. Verano, Director of OIAA, hosted the awarding ceremony and presented a brief background on the collaboration with the university’s international partners. The University President Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta-Nantes, together with the Vice Presidents, Dr. Gondelina A. Radovan, Dr. Marissa C. Esperal, and Dr. Frederick T. Villa were requested to be on stage for the awarding of the certificates.

               

Awardees were: 1) Thai Nguyen University, Vietnam;  2) Yamanashi Prefectural University, Japan; 3) Glenville State University, U.S.A.; 4) Multimedia University, Malaysia; 5) Halong University, Vietnam; 6) Catalyste+, Canada; 7) Tan Trao University, Vietnam; 8) Organization for Industrial, Spiritual, and Cultural Advancement, Japan, 9) Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnam; 10) Impact Circles, Ltd., Hong Kong; 11) National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Taiwan; and 12) Universitas Negeri Manado, Indonesia. Mr. Erwin Altamarino, Project Officer of Catalyste+ Canada, received the award on behalf of the Country Representative in the Philippines, Mr. Matt Navalta, and delivered his message of appreciation for the recognition of their organization, while Asso. Prof. Pham Quy Giang, Head of Department of International Cooperation of Halong University, and Mr. Yukihiro Ishibashi, the Resident Representative of Organization for Industrial, Spiritual, and Cultural Advancement (OISCA) Japan to OISCA Philippines acknowledged the certificate and expressed an appreciation on the recognition to international partners via zoom.

 

As SLSU – OIAA explores and fosters international collaboration with institutions in the ASEAN region and other countries around the world, and with the cooperation of the colleges and campuses and support of the administration, we are looking forward to a wider reach of internationalization initiatives of the university.

SLSU welcomes Catalyste+ Advisor Mr. Gerry O’Connor: Empowering Business Students through Mentoring Program

SLSU – Office of International and Alumni Affairs (OIAA) welcomes the Catalyste+ Advisor Mr. Gerry O’Connor at Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) main campus in Lucban, Quezon, Philippines.

                A campus tour was conducted on the first day of stay of           Mr. O’Connor, where he was able to learn the laboratories and facilities particularly, the main library, Hospitality Management laboratory, College of Administration, Business, Hospitality and Accountancy (CABHA), Office of Students Affairs and Services (OSAS), Administration building, and College of Allied Medicine (CAM). The campus tour was hosted by the OIAA through Director Dr. Joanna Paula E. Verano, assisted by OIAA staff: Ms. Jeannet Cosejo, Mr. Dexter Diamante and Ms. Kaye Xandra Racelis, and in coordination with the respective colleges.

OIAA facilitated a recognition program for Mr. O’Connor who extensively shared his expertise and stimulated the students’ entrepreneurial spirit. Dr. Verano formally opened the program by giving a warm welcome remarks followed by the appreciation message by the SLSU President Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta-Nantes, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Gondelina A. Radovan, and Dean of CABHA Dr. Chona V. Cayabat. Present in the said event are the faculty of CABHA and the participants including the group of business students who won the “Best Business Plan” during the mentoring sessions.

The faculty and students expressed their appreciation to Mr. O’Connor, to Catalyste+, and to the university for providing them an international and industry perspective on enterprise development through the implementation   of    “Empowering Business     Students    through Mentoring ” program.

The successful  implementation  of  the  mentoring program  provided the  students  with  a  wonderful  learning  experience.  Mr. O’Connor admired the faculty, staff, officials, and the students with their support and cooperation in the execution of the projects and programs of SLSU with Catalyste+ towards achieving the common goal of providing a quality education for the students. The closing remarks were delivered by the Project Officer of Catalyste+ Mr. Erwin Altamarino.

SLSU is privileged to be supported by Catalyste+ in this endeavor, providing opportunities to cultivate and support build business community through the mentoring of students with the expertise of Catalyste+ advisors.

Launching of SLSU International Coffee Table Book, International Research Presentation and Academic Cooperation Meeting in Vietnam

In support to the university’s direction in strengthening international linkages, the Office of International and Alumni Affairs (OIAA) Director Dr. Joanna Paula E. Verano together with the university officials: University President Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta-Nantes, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Gondelina A. Radovan, Dean of College of Arts and Sciences Dr. Sheila M. Manzanilla, Dean of College of Administration, Business, Hospitality, and Accountancy Dr. Chona V. Cayabat, and Head of Institute of Human Kinetics Mr. Federico A. Ceribo traveled to Vietnam on December 3 – December 11, 2022 for the project launching, international research presentation and academic cooperation meeting with international partner institutions.

                OIAA, in serving as a conduit in bringing global initiatives into realization and engaging alumni to worthwhile undertakings, presented the completion of its projects to its partner institution – Thai Nguyen University (TNU): Cross-border Tracer Study on SLSU-TNU joint programs and the International Alumni Coffee-table Book which provides pertinent information on the assessment of international academic programs and the journey of success of the alumni.

The results of the Tracer Study and a research paper on internationalization showcasing the university’s initiatives and experience were presented at the International Research Conference hosted by Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism (TUCST) and co-organized with Mindoro State University (MinSU) and Southern Luzon State University (SLSU).

Academic meetings on various programs such as business administration, hospitality management, environmental science, teaching English, exercise and sports sciences, and intensive English program were also facilitated with the foreign partner institutions in Vietnam– Halong University, Thai Nguyen University, and Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, on the implementation of terms and conditions stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This provides a good opportunity in strengthening our ties with international partners.

Empowering Business Students (Graduate School) through Mentoring Part 2 finishes off through a Culminating Activity

With the full support of the administration, SLSU – Office of International and Alumni Affairs (OIAA) in collaboration with Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO) has successfully wrapped up the “Capability Enhancement on International Business for College of Administration, Business Hospitality and Accountancy (CABHA) Faculty with CESO” through a Culminating Activity held on September 1, 2022 via zoom. The event highlighted the learning insights of the faculty in the series of training session from July 14, 2022 anchored on CESO’s program on Accelerating Women Empowerment.

SLSU Head of Faculty and Staff Development Program      Dr. Susana A. Salvacion formally opened the Culminating Activity by giving a warm welcome remark followed by the inspirational message by the SLSU President Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta-Nantes. Present in the said event are the Dean of Graduate School (GS) Dr. Mari Jane A. Lee, faculty of CABHA and GS – DBA and MBA programs, OIAA staff, and CESO Project Officers – Mr. Vener Valerio and Mr. Erwin Altamarino. The synthesis of learning insights and appreciation were expressed by Prof. Rosemarie N. Gella and Prof. Jeremiah P. Elloso as one of the trainees. The closing remarks are   delivered by Dr. Chona V. Cayabat – Dean of CABHA and       Mr. Matt Navalta – CESO Country Representative, Philippines.

The faculty who was grouped into four, presented an export plan as the output of the training which were commended by CESO. Furthermore, the output can be disseminated and discussed to the concerned entities.  This may serve as a rapid export assessment and can be coordinated with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) is privileged to be supported and complemented with talents of CESO in the goal of sustaining personnel development and competency level of teaching personnel through faculty training. This training on international business handled by a well-rounded CESO Advisor Mr. Aarij Bashir and the active participation of the trainees have made the objectives of the mentoring met–provision of technical training, updates on trends on international business operation, and uplifted entrepreneurial spirit.
