SLSU Midwifery Program pursues international standards

The Midwifery program of Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) is set to undergo international accreditation through the Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Health (IAAHEH) from February 5 to 7.

On the first day of the accreditation, SLSU officials, faculty, employees, and students warmly welcomed the delegation of IAAHEH accreditors before their courtesy call with the SLSU President, Dr. Frederick T. Villa.

IAAHEH shared that SLSU is the first university in the Philippines to formally reach out to them for accreditation. Should the process be successful, SLSU will also become the first institution in the country to have an IAAHEH-accredited Midwifery program.

Following the opening program, the IAHHEH Accreditors will collaborate with the SLSU IAHHEE Committee, led by College of Allied Medicine (CAM) Dean, Dr Rosalinda A. Abuy. The three-day evaluation will include a review of the Midwifery program profile, interviews and discussions with stakeholders, visitation and assessment of facilities, academic hospitals, and clinics, as well as observation of teaching and learning process.

Achieving IAAHEH-accredited status will affirm that SLSU’s Midwifery program meets internationally aligned standards. Beyond recognition, it will open doors to partnerships with foreign institutions and organizations, while ensuring that graduates possess the competencies required to study, train, or work abroad, should they want to.

IAAHEH, officially known as Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Pendidikan Tinggi Kesehatan (LAM-PTKes), was established in 2014 by Professional Organizations (OP) and the Association of Health Higher Education Institutions (AIP). It accredited programs across seven health sciences fields: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacy, Public Health and Nutrition. To date, IAAHEH has accredited around 4,000 study programs, including veterinary science, and has earned recognition from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the Asia-Pacific Quality Register (APQR). This recognition enables IAAHEH to accredit medical and health study programs both domestically and internationally, strengthening interprofessional collaboration and advancing global standards in health education.
