The Department of Health-Center for Health Development IV-A (DOH-CHD 4A), in partnership with the Gender and Development (GAD) Office of Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), held the Likha at Laya Art Exhibit to promote gender equality, women empowerment, and freedom from violence through creative expression on September 12, 2025, at the SLSU Covered Court.
The program opened with welcome messages from Ms. Joyce Gladys Villanueva, Radiologic Technologist II, and Dr. Juvy Paz Puriño, Development Management Officer V of the Provincial DOH Office, followed by a message of support from the University President, Dr. Frederick T. Villa. Morning sessions featured GAD talks led by Ms. Leslie Ann Sarmiento, Nurse II, culminating in a pledge of commitment to the goals of Likha at Laya.
In the afternoon, students showcased their artworks inspired by themes of empowerment and equality. After thorough deliberation of the judges, Isabella Marie Day (Grade 10-Plato) was hailed as the champion of the exhibit. Iomar Eimra Cada (4th Year BS CIT) secured 1st place, followed by Trishianne Alyssa Apuada (Grade 9-Orion) in 2nd place, Vina Michaella Nallica (Grade 7-Spitzer) in 3rd place, and Donn Miguel Antonio Nada (Grade 9-Perseus) completing the roster in 4th place.
The awarding ceremony was led by Dr. Puriño, followed by closing remarks from Mr. Rene Zubieto, GAD Director of SLSU.
This activity stood as a testament to how advocacy and artistry can unite to promote gender equality and social awareness, strengthening shared commitment in empowering communities and amplifying voices through creativity and dialogue.
