Dr. Lalas of Redlands University shares insights on diversity and inclusion with GS-CTE students

On March 1, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) proudly welcomed visiting Professor Dr. Jose Lalas, a full professor at Redlands University, U.S.A, as a guest speaker for the Graduate School’s College of Teacher Education (CTE) PhD in Educational Management and in Science Education students under the classes of CTE Dean Dr. Vanessa Zubieta, and GS-CAS faculty Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta-Nantes and Dr. Helene D. Daya. Dr. Lalas, shared his extensive academic work and experience in promoting diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice within educational systems in California, USA.

During his insightful talk, Dr. Lalas emphasized the importance of fostering inclusive learning environments that cater to students from diverse backgrounds. Drawing from his research and firsthand experiences, he discussed best practices in creating equitable opportunities for all learners, regardless of socio-economic status, ethnicity, or learning abilities. He also highlighted the role of educators in advocating for policies that support marginalized communities in the education sector.

Graduate students and faculty members engaged in a dynamic discussion with Dr. Lalas, exchanging ideas on how to apply these principles in the Philippine educational context. His visit also aimed to inspire future educators to become agents of change in promoting a more just and inclusive educational system.
