ICO conducts Basic Video Editing Training for SLSU IEC Focal Persons

To strengthen the digital communication capabilities of the IEC Focal Persons of SLSU colleges, campuses, and offices, the Information and Communications Office (ICO) conducted two batches of the workshop series titled “From Pages to Pixels Part 2: Training on Basic Video Editing using Adobe Premiere,” July 14 to 15.

Based on the pre-registration of the invited non-teaching personnel and faculty members, participants were carefully organized into batches according to their knowledge and skills in editing to ensure that each of them receives the appropriate level of guidance and support. Batch 1 consisted of 27 beginners, those with little or no experience in video editing, while Batch 2 comprised 24 participants who demonstrated working knowledge of Adobe Premiere or similar editing software.

To support Southern Luzon State University’s efforts in information dissemination and public relations, Dr. Frederick T. Villa, University President, and Dr. Arvin N. Natividad, Vice President for Administration and Financial Affairs, shared their messages of support. Both officials expressed their gratitude to the ICO and the delegates helping the university reach a wider range of audience through social media platforms.

For the first batch, the invited Subject Matter Expert (SME), Mr. Jefferson L. Abris, who also serves as ICO’s Media Production Specialist, introduced the video editing interface and essential functions of Adobe Premiere. Each participant learned and applied basic video editing techniques such as trimming, cutting, adding text overlays, and background music. At the end of the training’s first day, participants presented their 30-second teasers, with the top three entries being selected as awardees.

With the second batch, Mr. Abris helped deepen the participants’ understanding of Adobe Premiere’s more advanced features in Adobe Premiere, including transitions, color correction, keyframing, and audio balancing. Once again, attendees presented 30-second teaser videos showcasing the skills and techniques they had acquired. Similar to the first batch, the top three entries were recognized.

During the closing ceremony, Dr. Helene D. Daya, Head of the Faculty and Staff Development Program (FSDP), commended the participants’ eagerness in learning more about crafting videos. She expressed hope that the delegates would apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills not only in developing IEC materials but also in producing instructional materials.

Overall, the training empowered each participating unit with the capability to produce professional-grade video content optimized for SLSU’s social media platforms, official websites, and communication channels. The activity also reinforced the importance of maintaining branding consistency across all visual materials and expressed a strong commitment to upskilling the SLSU workforce.
