Mentoring Cooperatives for Sustainable Operation with Catalyste+, Canada and Quezon Federation Union of Cooperatives

A series of mentoring sessions in hybrid (via zoom and in-person) from August 30 to October 10, 2024 was facilitated by the project team from the College of Administration, Business, Hospitality and Accountancy-Graduate School headed by Dr. Joanna Paula E. Verano with Dr. Chona V. Cayabat and Dr. Jennifer Edytha J. Lagrazon in coordination with the International Affairs and External Linkages Office, Catalyste+, Canada, and the Quezon Federation Union of Cooperatives (QFUC). Catalyste+ Advisor Ms. Julia A. Ewing who served as one of the mentors along with the team shared valuable insights such as board executives relations, strategic planning, mentoring work plan, results-based management, risk and opportunities analysis, performance management, negotiation, and effective program operation and evaluation structures to the participants – Board member and/or key personnel of at least 6 cooperatives that would be helpful in developing a mentoring mechanism for their organization’s sustainable operation.

A visit to each participating cooperatives was conducted in Lucban and Lucena City on October 7-8, 2024 for a consultation while an in-person meetings were held on October 3 and 10, 2024, having the last meeting as the pre-culminating activity.  SLSU President Dr. Frederick T Villa, Office of Extension Services Dr. Felino J. Gutierrez, Jr., GS Dean Dr. Mari Jane A. Lee, CABHA Extension Coordinator Dr. Sherwin Pernia, Catalyste+ Project Manager Mr. Erwin Altamarino, QFUC Vice-Chair Ms. Cecilia Villamena, HR & Compliance Specialist Ms. Paula Josette Constantino and Technical Assistant Mr. Noel Oabel, and SLSU-MBA students Ms. Diana Elizabeth Reyes, Ms. Janice Alfonso and Ms. Angela Chryselle Obmasca and DBA student Mr. Michael Ribleza graced the hybrid mentoring sessions.  The mentees shared a sharing of synthesis of learning experience from the sessions, expressing appreciation to the team and its partners for putting up a training-workshop to assist the cooperatives.  Likewise, all parties – SLSU, Catalyste+, and QFUC are grateful for the collaborative extension project for the community.
