In line with its commitment to community service, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), through the Office of Extension Services, conducted a mental health awareness seminar and outreach activity for residents of Barangay Abang, Lucban, Quezon on July 27.
The activity titled “Strengthening Families, Nurturing Minds: A Mental Health Awareness Seminar and Outreach Activity” aimed to equip parents with essential knowledge on mental well-being, especially as the new school year begins.
Dr. Felino J. Gutierrez, Jr., Director of the Office of Extension Services, highlighted SLSU’s dedication to community engagement during the opening program, stating, “Ang SLSU po ay may pusong nangangalaga at nagmamahal sa mga komunidad na aming pinaglilingkuran.” Barangay Captain Hon. Arvin John A. Flores also expressed gratitude to the university, acknowledging the importance of such initiatives for the community.
The seminar, led by Dr. Bernardita E. Brillon, a faculty member from the College of Allied Medicine (CAM), emphasized the significance of emotional awareness in maintaining mental health. “Mahalaga po na kinikilala natin ang ating nararamdaman,” Dr. Brillon explained during her discussion.
Following the seminar, SLSU distributed school supplies to children in the barangay, supporting their educational needs for the upcoming school year. The activity not only fostered mental health awareness but also reinforced the university’s role in uplifting communities through holistic outreach programs.
