SLSU empowers mothers of Dolores, Quezon with training on candle making

On October 24, 2025, the SLSU Office of Extension Services successfully conducted a livelihood training on candle making for mothers of Dolores, Quezon.

The training, held at Brgy. Bagong Anyo Covered Court Dolores, Quezon, was in partnership with Unbound Manila Foundation through their Manila Funding Donor Qualification (FDQ) subproject.

Under the expert guidance of Engr. Lourdes A. Quevada, the participants were immersed in the art and science of candle making. Engr. Quevada detailed the necessary materials and step-by-step procedures, ensuring a strong foundational understanding. The session quickly transitioned into a dynamic, hands-on workshop where the mothers applied their new knowledge, crafting their first candles under the guidance of the facilitator.

The training also served as a platform for personal development and inspiration. Following the craft session, Engr. Quevada led a powerful discussion on women empowerment. Drawing from her own life experiences, she shared stories and advice on how motherhood does not limit one’s potential for success. She passionately encouraged every participant to become agents of change within their own families and community, emphasizing that self-reliance and initiative are key to improving their lives.

The training successfully empowered 42 mothers providing them with practical, marketable skills on candle making. This activity reaffirms the university commitment to fostering gender equality, social responsibility, and sustainable development through extension initiatives.
