SLSU Extends a Lifeline of Knowledge: Youth Seminar on HIV Awareness and Youth Development Session (YDS) Orientation in Lucban

In a collaborative effort educate the youth, the Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) Office of Extension Services joined forces with the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office IV-A (DSWD FO IV-A), LGU-Lucban, and the Philippine Red Cross to conduct a seminar on HIV awareness. This activity titled "HIV Awareness and Capability Building for Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP)-Lucban Chapter, 4Ps Youth Leaders & SK Chairpersons cum Youth Development Session (YDS) Orientation," took place on December 7, 2023, at the BPY Hall, Municipal Compound, Lucban, Quezon.

The seminar commenced with an enlightening orientation for the Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) by Mr. Jaybee Anday Aureada, Social Worker Officer II from PSWDO. His encouragement aimed to inspire out-of-school youth to actively participate and engage as members of the association. Meanwhile, Ms. Arceli R. Obmerga, a technical staff from the Office of Extension Services, presented an in-depth overview of the Youth Development Session (YDS) program. She provided essential insights into the program’s structure, target beneficiaries, and its anticipated duration. Additionally, Mr. Clodualdo O. Cabalsa, from the Philippine Red Cross, tackled the critical topic of HIV awareness, addressing the timely importance of such knowledgefor the young participants.

The activity was participated by more than one hundred youths from Lucban, Quezon consisting of 4Ps Youth Leaders, PYAP members, and SK Chairpersons. The Youth Development Session is expected to start in the first quarter of 2024. It will be composed of 15 modules and will run for approximately 6 months.
