SLSU hosts Free Cataract and Pterygium Surgical Mission for indigent patients

Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) supported the Free Cataract Surgical Mission that aimed at providing essential eye care to indigent patients from Lucban, Quezon, and surrounding communities. The mission took place from May 16 to 19, at the College of Allied Medicine (CAM) Audio-Visual Room and CAM Learning Center.

The four-day medical outreach includes a comprehensive schedule of pre-screening consultations, cataract surgeries, and post-operative follow-ups, ensuring holistic care for all beneficiaries. This initiative not only demonstrates SLSU’s commitment to public health and community service but also serves as a valuable extension of the university’s academic programs in allied health sciences.

The surgical mission has encountered 105 patients who underwent cataract surgery and 12 pterygium cases. These patients were among those who passed the initial screening. This aligns with SLSU’s vision of fostering responsive community engagement and highlights its active role as a catalyst for inclusive development in the region.

This mission was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the children of Mr. Gil and Mrs. Luisa Dayahan, Lucban National High School, and Lucban Academy Batch 1977, Dr. Gerard and Alyne Princesa, MCU Medical Alumni Foundation Association of America, the Claudina Tansingco Robino Eye Center and collaborated with SLSU. Their support underscores the importance of collaborative partnerships in advancing healthcare accessibility for marginalized sectors.
