Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) and the local government unit of Lucban, Quezon, collaborated on March 22 to organize a clean-up drive to prevent dengue.
Leaders from both agencies, University President Dr. Frederick T. Villa, Mayor Agustin A. Villaverde, and Vice Mayor Arnel C. Abcede expressed their gratitude towards the participants of the clean-up drive. The timely event is a great opportunity to encourage the whole community to keep their surroundings tidy and dengue-free, especially since Lucban experiences rain almost all year.
The Municipal Health Officer of Lucban, Dr. Luis S. Mallari III, and the dean of the College of Allied Medicine (CAM) both shared information on dengue and how to prevent it.
Assoc. Prof. Edsel P. Paroan, Director of the SLSU National Service Training Program (NSTP), emphasized the importance of initiating a clean-up drive. He said that we could prevent the worst from happening if we started cleaning.
After the program proper, the employees of LGU and SLSU, and students under NSTP scattered to the designated areas to conduct the clean-up. Among the areas they cleaned are SLSU, Baryo San Isidro, Baryo San Jose, Barangays 1 to 10, Ayuti, Palola, and Tinamnan.
Moreover, the NSTP students also handed out fliers containing information on dengue to the different households.
The clean-up drive was the pre-celebration of the 18th University Charter Day of SLSU, aligned with this year’s theme, “Building a Better University, Serving a Greater Community.”
