SLSU prepares GS faculty for digital instruction with LMS training

Southern Luzon State University conducted a Learning Management System (LMS) training for Graduate School (GS) faculty on June 23 to support the implementation of the system developed through the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Institutional Development and Innovation Grant (IDIG).

The Management Information Systems (MIS) Office spearheaded the training, which aimed to equip faculty members with the skills necessary to manage their online courses using SLSU’s LMS. Key topics included uploading learning materials, creating assignments, initiating discussion forums, building quizzes, and collecting student feedback.

The session was facilitated by Mr. Jedd Wilzon G. Borgonia of the MIS-ICT Office. Opening messages were delivered by Mr. Francis Ervin F. Pasumbal, MIS-ICT Head, and Dr. Mari Jane Lee, Head of the Graduate School. Closing remarks were given by Dr. Arvin N. Natividad, CHED IDIG Project Leader and Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs.

Faculty participants were provided with access to sandbox courses, allowing them to apply what they learned through guided hands-on activities.

This initiative is part of SLSU’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital instruction and ensure quality borderless education. The LMS was developed through the CHED-funded project titled “Development of a Learning Management System for Southern Luzon State University”, under the IDIG program.

Following the release of the ₱4,568,756.80 grant in 2022, Dr. Arvin N. Natividad, the Project Leader, along with the project team—composed of Dr. Debbie S. Bello, Dr. Maria Lavinia E. Fetalino, Dr. Chenee A. Dino-Aparicio, Mr. Jedd Wilzon G. Borgonia, and Mr. Marvin Joseph J. Castro—began procuring the necessary equipment. The system’s design and development were further supported by SLSU’s counterpart funding of ₱1,843,319.20.

Over two years, the LMS interface was developed, and following successful pilot testing, the training is now preparing GS faculty for the official LMS rollout in the upcoming first semester. The system is also expected to be expanded for use in undergraduate programs in the near future.
