Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) achieved a significant milestone with the signing of its first-ever Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA), granting BeeGood Agriventures OPC the rights to adopt and commercialize the university’s registered technology for producing Mushroom Chili Garlic Sauce.
The agreement formalizes a partnership that brings university-developed innovation to the market, reflecting SLSU’s growing commitment to technology transfer and sustainable agribusiness development.
“It is through these partnerships—like the one we are celebrating today—that we turn groundbreaking research into tangible solutions that can improve lives and foster economic prosperity,” said SLSU President Frederick T. Villa during the ceremonial signing.
The adopted technology was developed by the licensors, Dr. Nona D. Nagares and Asst. Prof. Alma J. Caringal, using locally sourced oyster mushrooms, chili, and garlic to produce a flavorful, umami-rich, and mildly spicy sauce. Positioned as a healthier alternative to conventional condiments, the mushroom chili garlic sauce promotes local mushroom farming, supports agripreneurship, and encourages sustainable food production.
Dr. Jennifer Edytha J. Lagrazon, Center Chief/Manager of SLSU’s Technology Business Incubator, presented the roles and responsibilities outlined in the agreement. As the licensee, BeeGood Agriventures OPC will produce the product, while SLSU will provide technical support and assistance in processing and quality control.

Also, BeeGood Agriventures OPC will pay SLSU an annual royalty of 1% of gross sales from the technology or a minimum of ₱10,000, whichever is higher. The licensing fee has been waived to further encourage innovation uptake and support for local enterprises.
Representing the licensors, Asst. Prof. Caringal, who also serves as Campus Director of SLSU Tiaong, expressed excitement over the formalization of a partnership that has been three years in the making. BeeGood Agriventures owner, Ms. Jessica M. Castillo, echoed this enthusiasm, describing the venture as a breakthrough for small agri-enterprises.
Meanwhile, VP for Research, Extension, Production, Development and Innovation, Dr. Marissa C. Esperal, in her closing remarks, congratulated Ms. Castillo for becoming the university’s first official licensee, highlighting the importance of going through all the required steps of the technology licensing process.
The collaboration between SLSU and BeeGood began in January 2022 with exploratory meetings and a needs assessment to evaluate the company’s readiness to adopt the technology. This was followed by clarification of production and marketing roles, and a comprehensive review of technical, financial, and legal requirements.
In compliance with Republic Act 10055 or the Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009, the university submitted documents for a Fairness Opinion Report to the Department of Science and Technology in March 2024. The final due diligence phase was completed in February 2025, paving the way for the formal execution of the agreement.
With this historical agreement, SLSU strengthens its role as a driver of innovation and sustainable enterprise in the region.
