In a significant stride towards academic collaboration and gender-focused initiatives, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) virtually convened with the Women's and Gender Studies Association of the Philippines (WSAP) on February 12, 2024. The primary agenda was to discuss the prospect of organizing an international convention in Quezon Province in the last quarter of 2024.
Discussions during the meeting revolved around defining the thematic focus of the conference, logistical considerations, and identifying mutual benefits for both institutions from such a collaboration. Participants explored avenues for academic exchanges and resource sharing to maximize the event’s impact
Dr. Excelsa C. Tongson, President of WSAP, conveyed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, stressing the importance of fostering dialogue on gender-related issues within the academic sphere. Dr. Marissa C. Esperal, the SLSU Vice President for Research, Extension, Production, Development, and Innovation, echoed the same sentiment, emphasizing the necessity of joint efforts to advance gender studies and promote inclusivity. Dr. Leomar C. Miano, Director of SLSU’s Office of Extension Services and concurrent Head of SLSU’s Gender and Development Office, and Dr. Nicanor L. Guinto, Director of the SLSU Office of Research Services, mentioned the support that SLSU can provide to ensure the success of the endeavor.
As the meeting concluded, both parties affirmed their commitment to advancing the collaboration and agreed to work on a comprehensive proposal outlining the event’s specifics. The immediate next steps include the finalization of a Memorandum of Agreement, signaling the formalization of the partnership, and the commencement of collaborative efforts.
