SLSU REPDI hosts strategic planning workshop, eyes for SUC Level IV

The offices under the Vice President for Research, Extension, Production, Development, and Innovation (VP-REPDI) of Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) held a strategic planning workshop themed "Road to SUC Level IV" on July 24-25, 2024, at the Royale Parc Hotel and Resorts, Tagaytay City.

The workshop saw active participation from over 50 representatives from the Office of Research Services, Office of Extension Services, Office of Productions Services, and Innovation and Technology Support Services Offices. Research and Extension coordinators, as well as some of the R&D project teams were invited to participate.

The two-day workshop commenced with welcome remarks from Dr. Marissa C. Esperal, SLSU VP-REPDI, followed by a message of support and encouragement from SLSU President, Dr. Frederick T. Villa, delivered by Dr. Arvin N. Natividad, OIC VP for Administrative and Financial Affairs.

The lecture series featured several distinguished speakers who shared insights to improve REPDIโ€™s contributions toward upgrading SLSUโ€™s SUC level. Dr. Felino J. Gutierrez, Jr. opened with a talk on aligning SUCโ€™s Research and Development initiatives with community development, highlighting the importance of impactful R&D efforts that benefit the communities served by the university.

Dr. Melbourne Rio Talactac, Vice President for Research and Extension at Cavite State University (CVSU), shared their journey to achieving Level IV, discussing the challenges they overcame, best practices, and actionable suggestions for SLSU. His insights provided a valuable roadmap for SLSUโ€™s own aspirations.

Dr. Erwin D. Villaverde, SLSUโ€™s Chief Administrative Officer, provided guidance on maximizing the use of government resources. He elaborated on crucial aspects of government accounting rules and regulations, helping participants understand how to efficiently manage and utilize their resources.

Following the lectures, Dr. Esperal outlined the workshop activities. Participants were divided into groups to identify programs, projects, and activities aligned with the Key Result Areas (KRAs) necessary for achieving SUC Level IV. Each group was tasked with proposing initiatives, complete with time frames and budget requirements.

On the second day, participants presented their proposals, which were met with constructive feedback from attending officials. These proposed programs, projects, and activities where the University can earn points for SUC leveling will be taken into consideration by the management for future planning and budgeting.

SUC Levelling is a critical process for determining the classification level of a state university or college, assessing performance based on the quality and relevance of instruction, excellence in research and creative works, extension services, and governance and management of resources.
