The Women’s and Gender Studies Association of the Philippines (WSAP) collaborated with the Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) to hold the Annual International Conference with the theme, “BPfA 30 and Beyond: Looking Back and Moving Forward,” on November 13 to 15, 2024.
The international conference seeks to influence and motivate group action to further the objectives of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA). With this, the WSAP International Conference will provide a vital opportunity for discussion among feminists, advocates, academics, legislators, activists, and stakeholders.
On October 17, WSAP and SLSU signed an agreement wherein SLSU will serve as the local secretariat and assist WSAP in preparing for the on-site conference, among others. Present in the MOA signing ceremony are Dr. Excelsa C. Tongson, WSAP President; Dr. Frederick T. Villa, SLSU President; Dr. Melanie M. Reyes, WSAP Treasurer; Dr. Marissa C. Esperal, SLSU VP for Research, Extension, Production, Development, and Innovation (REPDI); Dr. Nicanor L. Guinto, Director of the Office of Research Services; and aProf. Rene P. Zubieto, Director of the Gender and Development Office.
During the ceremony, WSAP President Dr. Tongson expressed her gratitude towards the university, which was sincere in taking on the challenge. Meanwhile, Dr. Villa assured that SLSU, as a gender inclusive university, will continue to collaborate with WSAP and other institutions so that the institution’s stakeholders, particularly the students, can reach their full potential regardless of gender.
