Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) and the Social Development Research Center (SDRC) of De La Salle University (DLSU) โ Manila jointly conducted the fourth session of "Huntahan for the Year 2024," themed โEnabling Researchers: Capacity Building Workshop on Basic Qualitative Analysis.โ This hybrid event took place on July 16, 2024, with onsite participants gathering at the 4th Floor, Banahaw Hall, SLSU Hotel and Cafรฉ, Southern Luzon State University, Lucban, Quezon, and over a hundred participants all over the Philippines and abroad joining via ZOOM.

In this session, SLSU collaborated with the SDRC, which supported the workshop through its capacity-building training and social engagement program. DLSU Associate Professor Darren Dumaop, PhD, served as the Resource Speaker.
The program commenced with preliminaries, including a recorded welcome message from Dr. Marissa C. Esperal, SLSU Vice President for Research, Extension, Production, Development, and Innovation. Dr. Esperal expressed hope that the Huntahan session would enable and capacitate researchers in their endeavors.

Dr. Homer J. Yabut, Director of DLSU-SDRC, also addressed participants via ZOOM, expressing gratitude for the partnership with SLSU and indicating plans for entering into a Memorandum of Understanding to further research and development collaborations between the two universities.

A message from Dr. Frederick T. Villa, SLSU President, was read by Dr. Nicanor L. Guinto, Director of the SLSU Office of Research Services. Dr. Villa affirmed the future of SLSU as an innovative educational institution, supported by agencies such as DLSU-SDRC. He quoted German-American physicist and rocket engineer Wernher Von Braun, saying, “Research is what I’m doing when I don’t know what I’m doing,” and encouraged participants to embrace unknown challenges for future benefits.
Dr. Dumaop started his lecture with an interactive activity to help participants visualizeย qualitative analysis as a research method. Following the lecture, participants engaged in coding exercises and were introduced to Taguette, a tool for analysis.

In the afternoon, Dr. Dumaop facilitated a workshop where participants identified potential themes from their codes and created thematic maps to illustrate relationships between these themes. The group outputs were presented, and Dr. Dumaop commended the participants for their excellent work.
During the closing ceremonies, Dr. Guinto thanked the participants for their attendance, especially faculty researchers who attended despite being on teacher’s leave.
