Conversion of SLSU Infanta, Polillo, and Tayabas into regular campuses passes initial committee deliberation

The Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) achieved a significant legislative milestone after House Bill No. 8061, “An Act Converting the Southern Luzon State University Extension Campuses in the Municipalities of Infanta and Polillo, and the City of Tayabas, Province of Quezon, into Regular Campuses,” authored by Rep. Wilfrido Mark M. Enverga, successfully passed initial deliberation before the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education, on May 5.

The proposed measure seeks to convert SLSU’s existing extension campuses in Infanta, Polillo, and Tayabas into regular campuses, thereby granting each campus fiscal autonomy. Among the benefits of this conversion are separate plantilla positions and direct budget allocation under the General Appropriations Act.

Once enacted, this conversion is expected to strengthen access to quality higher education in the Real-Infanta-General Nakar-Polilo Group of Islands (REINA-POGI) area, City of Tayabas, and the eastern corridor of Quezon Province.
