
In pursuit of advancing its knowledge in intellectual property management, technology business incubation, SLSU conducted a benchmarking activity at Cavite State University’s (CvSU) Knowledge Management Center (KMC), Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management Division (IPTBMD), and Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubation (ATBI). The visit served as a platform to exchange best practices and strengthen future collaborations between the two institutions.
The benchmarking visit commenced with a courtesy call at CvSU’s Administration Building, where the SLSU delegation was warmly received by Dr. Cristina M. Signo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Melbourne R. Talactac, Vice President for Research and Extension. Also present were key personnel from KMC, ATBI, and IPTBMD, who expressed their enthusiasm in sharing insights that could help SLSU enhance its innovation and technology transfer initiatives.
Advancing Intellectual Property Management: Insights from CvSU IPTBMD
The discussion on intellectual property and technology business management was spearheaded by Dr. Teddy F. Tepora, Head of IPTBMD. He shared valuable insights into the progress of CvSU’s IPTBM initiatives, highlighting how the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST PCAARRD) has played a crucial role in guiding and supporting their strategies.
Dr. Tepora outlined their structured approach to intellectual property (IP) filings, emphasizing the importance of scheduling and components of IP awareness through guided workshops. He also provided an in-depth discussion on pre-commercialization activities, including technology promotion, pitching sessions, and strategic technology transfer mechanisms that bolster commercialization initiatives. CvSU’s strong alignment with the requirements of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) was also underscored, ensuring compliance through annual clustering activities. Moreover, Dr. Tepora shared how CvSU incentivizes inventors and creators of IP, reinforcing a culture of innovation and research productivity within the university.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Tepora emphasized that their efforts remain firmly aligned with CvSU’s institutional goals, reflecting a commitment to integrating IP management into broader university initiatives.
