SLSU, LGU Lucban formalize partnership to strengthen stewardship for Mt. Banahaw

To further solidify its goal to steward programs for environmental protection and conservation, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) formalized its partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of Lucban, Quezon, through the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on June 3.

The collaboration falls under the approved extension project titled โ€œHealthy Environment, Healthy Communities: A Mt. Banahaw de Lucban Stakeholders Capacity Building towards a Sustainable Environment.โ€ The project is led by Dr. Francisco N. Beltran, with project members Dr. Amalia E. Almazol and For. Richard T. Valle, all faculty members of the SLSU College of Agriculture (CAg). It aims to raise the awareness of local stakeholders, including Sangguniang Barangay and Kabataan Officials, and residents, about the importance of Mt. Banahaw as a habitat for wildlife and educates them on the legal restrictions under the environmental and forest laws and regulations.

The MOA was signed by Dr. Frederick T. Villa, SLSU President, and Hon. Agustin Villaverde, Municipal Mayor of Lucban. Also present as witnesses to the MOA signing were the project management team and Dr. Felino J. Guiterrez, Jr., Director of the SLSU Office of Extension Services, as well as Mr. Gerald Labitoria, Executive Assistant of LGU Lucban.

The partnership underscores both institutionsโ€™ commitment to integrating community development with environmental protection, fostering a healthy and sustainable environment while strengthening the stewardship of Mt. Banahaw
