In time with the observance of mental health month this May, selected teaching and non-teaching personnel from SLSU main campus were trained on basic counseling skills, psychological first aid, and referral system. Guided with the theme “SLSU Faculty and Staff: Champions of Mental Health Advocacy,” the program aims to equip SLSU personnel with the ability to respond to crisis events and people needing emotional support.
Ms. Lillian Ng Gui, a counseling psychologist, professor, consultant to various TV shows, and a board member of the MTRCB served as resource speaker while SLSU guidance counselors and peer facilitators served as the working committee. It is expected that faculty members and staff can now provide first-line response to students, peers, and subordinates who are exhibiting mental health concerns.
