Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) reinforced its commitment to community extension and public service through the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Sangguniang Barangay of Barangay 5, held at the Session Hall in Lucban, Quezon, July 23.
Under the agreement, both parties will jointly implement two SLSU-funded extension initiatives under the leadership of Project Leader Dr. Pitz Gerald G. Lagrazon: “Sustainable Heritage: Rehabilitating Malaking Bambang with Solar Technology,” with project members Dr. Frederick T. Villa, Engr. Winda Ellaga, and Engr. John Christopher Tayoto; and “BRIDGE 5: Barangay Readiness Initiative for Development, Growth, and Employment in Barangay 5, Lucban, Quezon,” with project members Dr. Jennifer Edytha J. Lagrazon and Engr. Maurine C. Panergo. These initiatives aim to promote environmental conservation through sustainable technologies, strengthen community preparedness, create livelihood opportunities, and encourage active stakeholder participation through innovative and community-driven approaches.
Present also during the activity were Vice President for Research, Extension, Production, Development, and Innovation, Dr. Marissa C. Esperal; and, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Maria Corazon B. Abejo; together with Barangay 5 Chairman, Hon. Dionisio R. Baldovino, Barangay Councilor, Hon. Adrelon L. Cada, and Barangay Secretary, Ms. Christine Joy Carretas.
The signing ceremony highlighted the shared commitment of SLSU and the Barangay 5 Local Government Unit to implement extension programs that respond to community needs, promote sustainability, and advance inclusive local development. Through this collaboration, SLSU continues to bridge academic expertise with grassroot initiatives by developing sustainable solutions that contribute to environmental stewardship, social empowerment, and resilient communities.
