“Bilang isang state university, may mahalagang papel ang SLSU sa gawaing ito. We must become an institution where research is translated into policy, where technology is transformed into opportunity, and where innovation becomes a means of empowering communities. That is why this week is more than a celebration. It is a call to action,” the University President, Dr. Frederick T. Villa, stated in his message.
This year’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (STW) highlights the affirmation of the Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) in its responsibility to utilize knowledge in solving problems and improving the lives of the Filipino people.
This was further emphasized in the speech of the guest speaker of STW 2026, Dr. Guillermo A. Mendoza. During the opening program, he reminded us that producing impacts is the true measure of research and innovation.
As SLSU officially opened the event, 17 booths from the colleges and campuses, and several booths from external agencies, are now accessible. Students, employees, and other stakeholders may interact with each booth and complete the whole booth experience.
Additionally, the opening program also celebrated the awarding of the Bureau of Plant Industry’s Certificate of Accreditation to SLSU Tissue Culture Laboratory. The accreditation is a testament to the laboratory’s commitment to providing quality services.
Likewise, SLSU formally inaugurated the CAM Auditorium, days after the completion of its Phase 2 in September 2026. The renovation of the auditorium featured upgraded soundproofing, control room, interior, and seating, among others. Overall, Phase 1 of the project amounted to Php 3,445,230.60, while Phase 2 Lot 1 cost Php 1,280,170.00, and Phase 2 Lot 2 amounted to Php 550,454.00
The celebration also has competitions open to faculty and students, including Day 2 activities: 5th Research Congress; 3rd Extension Conference; Suleo Technology Pitching Competition; and WEN Ignite Trainers Training Program: Faculty Capacity Building for Entrepreneurship Education and Innovation.
There are also pre-event contests open to all Yuyans: 1) Sustainable Packaging Design Challenge 2026, and 2) TikTalk 2026: Research Storytelling Video Competition. Furthermore, a discussion on technology will be held on the third day through the Fireside Chat 2.0. Following this, a ceremonial signing of the MOA for co-incubation with Cavite State University (CvSU) and Vin-Vie Integrated Farms will take place.
All winners will be announced during the awarding and closing ceremonies on September 17 at the SLSU Gymnasium.
