On Tuesday, March 25, the Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) Gymnasium transformed into a hub of inspiration, hosting the highly anticipated 18th University Charter Day Celebration from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Centered on the theme "Empowered Women: Breaking Boundaries, Uplifting Community," this momentous event honored the profound contributions of women in shaping society and pushing past barriers to create a more inclusive and empowered community.
The program commenced with the National Anthem and the Awit ng Paaralan, fostering a spirit of pride and unity. Dr. Marissa C. Esperal, Vice President for Research, Extension, Production, and Development Integration (REPDI), delivered the Opening Remarks. This was followed by a Special Message from Dr. Frederick T. Villa, the esteemed University President, whose words set an inspiring tone for the event.
The celebration saw a remarkable turnout of 576 participants, including students and employees, who gathered to witness and engage in the enlightening program.
A Celebration of Women’s Strength and Insights
The event featured a keynote speech by Prof. Wendell Pangilinan, a retired professor who graciously embraced her family’s request to become a full-time homemaker. Far from retreating into the background, Prof. Pangilinan chose to redefine empowerment by finding joy and fulfillment in her roles as a homemaker, a brick toy hobbyist, and a passionate cook. Through her powerful words, she reminded the audience that “true beauty lies in embracing one’s individuality and cherishing a life well-lived.” She emphasized the importance of authenticity, compassion, and balance as the hallmarks of true empowerment and advocated for the value of a contented heart in building strong, happy families—a cornerstone of a thriving nation.
Spotlighting Inspiring Women Alumni
Following the keynote, a Round-table Discussion provided a platform for insightful dialogue with three accomplished women alumni of SLSU:
