SLSU-Tiaong Campus Conducts Seminar on the Importance of Mushroom and Stingless Bee Production

To improve the lives of farmers in Tiaong, Quezon, through engaging in Mushroom Production and Beekeeping, the SLSU Tiaong Campus implemented the program entitled Kabute at Pukyutan: A Livelihood Program for the Farmers Association in Tiaong, Quezon. The program consisted of two major components: Mushroom Production: Kay Buting Kita Sa Pagkakabute, and Beekeeping: Bee Good while Engaging in Beekeeping.

On July 12, 2022, the SLSU Tiaong campus conducted a seminar on the importance of mushroom and stingless bee production at Sitio Calmaigan, Brgy. Bulakin, Tiaong, Quezon. The activity aimed to inform and train individuals on the importance, processes, processing, and marketing of mushroom and bee products.

Ms. Alma J. Caringal, Director of the SLSU Tiaong campus, warmly welcomed the participants. In her welcome remarks, she emphasized the importance of conducting and attending seminars for the betterment of the livelihood and benefits of the community. Mr. Virgilio Paran, President of the Bulakin Farmers Association, also expressed his deepest gratitude for providing a great opportunity for farmers to improve and expand their sources of income.

The seminar proper was facilitated by Dr. Rosie C. Dulay, Faculty of SLSU Tiaong Campus. During the morning session, she tackled honeybee products. Dr. Dulay encouraged the farmers to take risks in bee product-related businesses, as they are in demand in the market. The afternoon session was solely led by Ms. Alma J. Caringal, focusing on mushrooms. Ms. Caringal discussed the nutritional and health benefits of oyster mushrooms, highlighting that they are not only beneficial as a business but can also provide the market with a healthy and valuable product.

The activity was successfully conducted and attended by 43 farmers as participants.
