In celebration of the 2025 Elderly Filipino Week, the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) CALABARZON, in partnership with the Gender and Development (GAD) Office of Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), hosted a meaningful event themed, “Si Lolo at Si Lola Kabalikat sa Responsableng Pagpapamilya,” to highlight the vital role of grandparents in fostering responsible family life and intergenerational solidarity, held on October 23, 2025, at the SLSU Covered Court.
The half-day program gathered members of the Lucban Retired Teachers and Employees Association Inc. as the main audience. It began with preliminaries followed by a welcome message from the University Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Arvin N. Natividad. The program continued with an orientation on the event theme delivered by Ms. Arlene Soriano, Administrative Officer V of CPD-CALABARZON. Further, updates on Presidential Proclamation No. 470, s. 1994 (Elderly Filipino Week celebration), Republic Act No. 11982 (Expanded Centenarians Act), and Republic Act No. 11350 (National Commission of Senior Citizens Act) were discussed by Ms. Aileen Mae Paleza, Project Development Officer II of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).
An open forum followed, providing an opportunity for participants to share their insights and experiences. The event concluded with a closing message from Assoc. Prof. Rene P. Zubieto, Director of SLSU GAD Office.
Through this activity, both SLSU and CPD reaffirmed their commitment to promoting welfare, dignity, and active participation of elderly Filipinos in nation-building.
